It was only a matter of time before the sequel to the movie Sonic the Hedgehog was finalized at Paramount. The film was one of the biggest box office hits in 2020, setting new records for video game film adaptations.
The original Sonic film saw $ 146 million at the national box office and $ 306 million worldwide. While these numbers aren’t Marvel, they’re still incredibly impressive, even breaking records set by the film Detective Pikachu.
Director Jeff Fowler will return to the helm of this sequel, along with Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller who will write the script. The film will also see the return of producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, as well as executive producers Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller. No cast has yet been announced, but it is believed that Ben Schwartz will return as Sonic. It is not yet known if Jim Carrey is signed upon return as a sworn enemy of Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, AKA Eggman. The end of the first movie certainly gave the impression that we should expect to see Carrey back as the iconic villain, much more like the character’s original game version.
We also don’t know if James Marsden will return as Tom the Donut Lord.
